Excellent Cesc Interview + Thoughts On Vela Loan And Sanchez Watt

A short while back I bumped into an interview given by Cesc Fabregas just before the Man City game. I’m not sure if others have shared this or not or if people have already seen it on TV or some other site. Since the youtube views count was only 1455, which seems quite low for such an interview, I thought it’s worth sharing.

Among other things, El Capitan was talking about his feelings for Arsenal. If you love Arsenal and adore Cesc this interview is highly reassuring. If you think Cesc does not have his head in the right place anymore or that he doesn’t want to play for Arsenal then you just have to watch this.

In other news, Arsene mentioned that there are 10 clubs interested in taking Carlos Vela on loan with three or four of those from England. Le Boss said he prefers a team in England but a lot will depend on Vela as well.

I’m hoping the Mexican international will pick a club in England and will grind it out for the rest of the season. It would be easier for him to go to Spain where he’s already played and the culture and language are a lot more familiar. But I feel a player in his situation has to move out of his comfort zone a little and pick the toughest option at this stage of his career.

I don’t wish to belittle the work he does or the difficulties involved in moving between countries and cultures at such a young age but there has been a thought in my mind for a while that Vela doesn’t do enough. It’s not a black and white situation where you either work hard or you don’t work hard. I don’t think Arsene would accept any slackers on his training ground.

There are times when it seems a player just has to offer something more than what is asked of him. It has to be his own initiative and should show that extra level of commitment and desire. I feel that Vela has struggled a bit on this front. Going to a tough place like Bolton or some other Premier League club where he will have to fight for his place and will have to battle for the ball every time he goes on the pitch will be extremely beneficial to Vela rather than a club in a foreign country where he might do much better but would find it less challenging.

Finally, I wanted to comment on the fact that Arsenal have given Sanchez Watt the permission to play against them. Wenger said that he has always been in favour of allowing players to play against their parent clubs and it’s something I agree with.

In this case, if Watt gets to play, it will be the best way for the fans to see how a highly rated youngster performs against the pros. It will show us the level of the academy and the level of jump required to move from there to the starting line-up. Sometimes I feel people don’t realize that the gap between youth football, or even reserves for that matter, and actual first team action is quite big.

To be clear, I’m not trying to deride the performances of players at youth or reserves levels. I just want to see the difference between that level and the highest one. If Watt can play at his best we should get a fairly good idea.

See you with the match preview in a few hours.

    Just saw this article,

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/862227/carlo-ancelotti-unmoved-by-blues-banner-protests?cc=5901

    here’s a quote from that piece –

The manager and his squad arrived at training to be greeted by two banners which read: “Ancelotti + Abramovich out!” and “None of you are fit to wear the shirt”.

LOL all clubs have their set of loonies I guess.

    • AnonymousGun says:

LOL.. if Abramovich gone, who gonna pay the wages? 😀

They could have garage sales, but who gonna pay over the odds for almost retired players (read, their whole first team)

      XD

Totally agree with you on Vela…If he wants a future here he should go on loan in the EPL and get more familiar…I have no doubt that if he goes to Spain he will do very well but I’m afraid that would mean the end of him at Arsenal…Vela to me has just as much ability as anyone at our club i just hope he works hard to fulfill his potential as it is obvious Wenger wants him to stay…On the Watt issue many believe he has been sold to Leeds already thats why we let him play this weekend.

”Forget the heroics of José Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson, or even Carlo Ancelotti,
Arsène Wenger has been the world’s best manager over the past decade
    – and it’s official. The Arsenal boss topped a table complied by the ‘International Football Federation of History & Statistics ’ (IFFHS) – an organisation recognised by FIFA. Wenger earned 156 points, Ferguson was second (148), Mourinho third (135).”- The Daily Mail

Nice blog, Desi Gunner and some astute observations as well. I’ve bookmarked you and look forward to your thoughts for 2011 and beyond. Great interview with Cesc – thanks so much for posting this.
My family is from Mumbai and Pune and I grew up in Canada. Though I played “soccer” all through high school and university, like you, I didn’t discover Arsenal until a little in later in life. Now I’m hooked and can never go back to the NHL or NFL or anything else with the same amount of passion and interest that I have in the Gunners.
What are your thoughts on Leeds? They are no pushovers…

    pH,

Thanks for the information. Nice to see AW get his well deserved appreciation/recognition.

  7. Claver says:

    @pH, Bootoomee

Totally agree. Good to see AW get his richly deserved recognition. Let’s hope that he continues to strike gold in his methods and practices. I saw the article here via Google News:

Wenger named world’s best manager of the past decade (but it’s the only trophy he’s won for six years)

  9. mansfield says:

the captain sounded great. Very inspirational. thanks for the interview.

  10. Filip says:

Desi, Wenger says that he has what it takes to play for Arsenal.Aren’t you excited to see him wear our shirt?

  11. Mark says:

would be a dream if Cesc never left arsenal, and became the arsenal club legend that he should become

  12. AnonymousGun says:

I do hope Vela took a long look at Jack in Bolton last year and realised what could be his future as well.

He is an oustanding player and if he could prove his worth, that left wing is his in a very near future.. David Villa plays on the wing for Barcelona as well, Theo is excellent this year, and Eto’o played on the wing at Inter as well, so its not like strikers cant blossom in the wing.

  13. Cbev says:

Thank you very much I have to admit I felt cesc really wanted to leave not thinking he would fake his injury though. It’s good to hear he doesn’t want to atleast till he wins some trophies
