Fabregas Starts Against Shakhtar, Arshavin Rested

Just saw the team news on Sky Sports,

Fabianski – Eboue, Squillaci, Djourou, Clichy – Song, Wilshere, Cesc – Rosicky, Chamakh, Nasri.

So just the two changes from the side that beat Birmingham but two very interesting ones. Arshavin gets a well deserved rest and El Capitan is considered ready to start.

No doubt Arsene is showing Shakhtar a great deal of respect.

Eduardo on the bench for the visitors.

Anyone else enjoying the Rooney mess? Has he been tapped up? Is he running away from the Media? Just another mercenary? Most importantly, can we afford him and should we make a bid?

u must be having a laugh.

  2. Filip says:

Yeah, buy rooney. We made 56 mln pounds profit.

  3. Bala says:

Never ever we should make a bid for Rooney. We have NickyB,Vela,Theo,Awesome JET and Afobe waiting in the wings. The last thing we need is a Cheat like Rooney to spoil all these youngsters.

  4. ben says:

    why risk fabregas!!

    • desigunner says:

Even I was wondering about it. I’m not sure but a short while back Andy Gray was saying it’s raining and the surface is very slippery, not good conditions to risk a player with a muscle injury.

I have a feeling the issue with Cesc was more mental and not physical. If he’s 100% fit then it probably isn’t a case of risking. Anyway, very difficult to guess what Wenger knows and what he is thinking.

  5. damien says:

    Epic attacking lineup.

  6. LondonGunner says:

No thx no Rooney Desi as you mentioned we don need mercenaries in our team, gallas, anelka, and Adylazy were all trouble. Am in the pub not far away from the mighty Emirates the fans are buzzing, thanks god for iPhone.

    • desigunner says:

Yeah mercenaries are bad news for a side that wants to focus on togetherness and team play. I was wondering if Wenger can change Rooney? He has a way with players. But my guess is Rooney wants to go away from England.

Good for you, have fun and keep updating 🙂

      • LondonGunner says:

Desi! Rooney wants 200k per week, AW can surely change him, but he would never pay a player 200k, Rooney at the current form should pay Manchester united to get in the stadium, he has been awful, arrogant, and childish.

P.S Chamakh proved his doubters wrong again assisting and scoring. 9 games in the CL 8 goals (that s include Bordeaux last year) We cheered Eduardo a lot he must be feeling proud to have played for us what a gentleman he was touched by the reception.

      • desigunner says:

I thought United were willing to offer him any amount and the discussion never reached the financial numbers?

His attitude has been quite bad, but I’ve a feeling Fergie might have contributed to that.

Chamakh is a what I’d say a “team striker”. Most strikers thrive on being selfish, he’s just the opposite.

Great reception for Eduardo and loved his reaction as well.

  7. Naylyn says:

Rooney would be a terrible buy, but I think you know this already. If we were going to make a bid for a ridiculously expensive striker I would rather Torres.

    • desigunner says:

I’m a huge Torres fan, so much that I rate him as the best in the Premiership. But do we want another injury prone genius?

      • Naylyn says:

Well I figure if we had two of them then at least one of them would be fit for most of the season and we could afford to be careful with both of them.

Actually I think Torres is less injury prone then it seems and Liverpool has mistreated him a lot. Making someone play with pain killing injections is not a good way to rehabilitate a player coming back from injury.

      • desigunner says:

If we can have Torres and RvP and if one of them is always available, we’ll win the treble. But those are two huge ifs 🙂

  8. rahul says:

good lineup just scared about cescy!
btw it seems that gibbs might start the citeh game??

    desi are you on twitter??

    • desigunner says:

Gibbs against City will be a brave move.

I made a twitter account but haven’t quite figured out what to do with it. The id is same as my email id.

      • rahul says:

        haha 😀
Gibbs otherwise should have started today as Clichy really needs a rest (to be dropped!!)

love the fact that you have Gabbar in your dp :p (saw sholay on tv the other day!!)

      • desigunner says:

Yeah I was surprised Gibbs wasn’t picked for this game.

Sholay is one of my all time favorites. The other day I was thinking about Arsene in Gabbar mode if the team conceded on a counter.

        Arsene: Kitne Aadmi the?

        Squillaci: Sardar do.

Arsene: Woh do, aur tum teen, phir bhi goal ho gaya! Dhikkar Hai!

I know it’s crazy but great fun 😀

      • HexyDre says:

Talking about twitter, I just discovered young master jack has a twitter account and it is a verified one, so it’s real, here: twitter.com//jack_wilshere

      • desigunner says:

Thanks I’ll update the player website section.

  9. Filip says:

Desi, did u hear that JET scored a hat trick today for the reserves against west ham ? This is 8 goals in 5 games at reserve level. Not bad, huh ? Dont u find similarities between him and arjen robben ? He scores the same kind of goals that Robben does all the time.

    • desigunner says:

Yeah I saw the news haven’t seen the highlights.

The kid is a super talent. I don’t think he’s as quick as Robben but has an advantage physically.

That said, from what I’ve seen, I’d love to see him impose himself more on such games. The standard of reserves is not that great so he should be like Ronaldo was for United in that one season, unstoppable.

  10. clarence says:

i rather we get torres for the same amount of money instead rooney~

seem that our injuries are easing up…if all goes well, wenger will soon have a headache of 2 full team to choose for every game~

    • desigunner says:

Every time we’ve come close to that state someone picks up a bad injury, so I’m consciously trying to avoid thinking about that 🙂

  11. Champion says:

I never ever want to see Rooney play for Arsenal – even on a free!

I am so happy that we got to say goodbye properly to Dudu. We didn’t get to clap him off and show our appreciation last season so today makes up for it.

  12. james says:

Cesc and Jack sitting in the middle M-A-G-I-C-A-L.
Damn, if only this could last for the next decade or so, our own Terrific Twosome, if only….

    • desigunner says:

      if only …

It’s amazing seeing them both together and as Jack matures they’ll get even more exciting.

Sorry your comment ended up in spam, not sure why.

  13. MSL says:

Rooney? Seriously? I smell fish and a couple of rats in the whole deal. I don’t think he will be a good fit because attitude, salary, general misbehaviour etc Rooney when happy is great but when is off his song can be dressing room poison. SAF is finding hard to handle this kid, we need no such headaches.

If there is one striker we need its RvP. Plus, there is a truck load of talent waiting to be uncovered at AFC.

    • desigunner says:

I just posed the question to get people’s thoughts. No doubt the buy big/buy English brigade will want him at Arsenal but I’m with you on this.

  14. Lazylah says:

    No rooney please.
Just thinking about the dive to end our unbeaten streak is enough to hate him already.
