We travel to Molineux for a must win game. Everyone seems to have made the right noises. Fabregas and Van Persie have done their bit in identifying the importance of getting three points. Le Boss has talked about consistency and the need to recover some ground on the top two. For his part, Mick McCarthy has talked about having a go at Arsenal, how we are weak on set pieces and the futility of trying to defend against such an attacking team.
The media and the blogosphere have written about our away form, the number of goals we have scored, the creditable draws that our hosts have achieved recently and so on. Well, pretty much everything has been covered and I don’t have anything special to add to that.
The only thing I can say is that right now I have genuine hopes of ending the season with a winner’s medal or two. If that has to be sustained we need a win tomorrow at all costs. It doesn’t matter if it ends up as a hard fought 0-1 or turns out to be a thrashing.
The best feeling I get is because there is real desire in the eyes and body language of players like RvP and Cesc. The last couple of games have given me the most positive vibes for a long long time. Van Persie applauded Song for a misplaced pass in the last game. I don’t remember the last time I saw that in the recent past. It shows the spirit we need. As Arsene says, these players have to play for each other for the rest of the season.
If the players get there attitude right we will win. There is nothing that Mick McCarthy or his players can do about it. No disrespect to our hosts, but this Arsenal team is in a league of its own as far as talent goes.
I am also interested in seeing the starting line up. This is the last game before the international break so Arsene doesn’t really have to rest anyone. We will find out tomorrow if Nasri has returned to full fitness or not i.e. whether he can play two full games in a three day period. We will also see whether Rosicky is fit enough to start. After the AZ game, Wenger spoke about Cesc having a tight hamstring. Does it warrant a rest? Will our Russian magician get a breather? Will Eduardo get a start with a rest for Robin? I am quite delighted we are so spoilt for choice.
Whatever team Le Boss puts out should be good enough to win the game for us. On top of that, we will have the luxury of having a really strong bench. I do want to see if that team will be good enough to keep a clean sheet. We have conceded enough goals that haven’t meant anything in terms of points. On the other hand, we have dropped points away from home and our goal difference in these games is a paltry one.
I already have tomorrow’s headline for the review in mind – Arsenal tame wolves with a right royal spanking. Let’s hope they don’t serve me a humble pie instead.
