Fabregas Transfer Talk + Arshavin Talks Transfers

I don’t like reading transfer speculation at a time when the whole team should be focused on each game that is akin to a cup final. As I don’t like it I normally ignore the dross, but I’ve to sneak a peak. Amongst the regular load of tosh a couple of articles were quite vexing.

First was the rumour linking El Capitan with Inter spiced up with Balotelli and quite some money thrown in. Now, if you know any Indians you’d know that we love our spices. But using them is an art form and you can’t randomly throw a few together as was done with that rumour or you just end up with an unpalatable concoction. As far as the transfer goes, I’m not really concerned. The annoying bit is the last line from the agent,

Have we received proposals from Italy? Yes, but not only from there.

The agent has openly stated that they have received proposals. Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t they need approval from Arsenal before they can receive proposals? If not, wouldn’t this be a clear case of tapping up? Are agents allowed to speak with other clubs without the permission of the club that owns the registration?

To an extent this is considered normal, after all Barca have been at it for a couple of seasons now. Still it’s more through the media and indirect channels. I doubt if they have contacted Fabregas’ agent.

I’d be really worried if Arsenal have indeed given Fabregas the permission to speak with other clubs and I’d be completely pissed if our captain is being tapped. Let’s hope somebody clears this up.

In the next piece of annoying business Arshavin is reportedly talking down our title chances due to the lack of signings. I guess everyone must have read the comments by now but here they are just for reference,

I am still of the opinion that to win trophies Arsenal needs more players.

There is the simple fact that last summer we sold two players and bought only one. So there is an obvious deficit of at least one. Then we lost Van Persie, Gibbs and Ramsey for a long time. So for me it is natural we need new players.

Without the variety of players we have less diversity in attack. That allows our opponents to read our combinations more easily. Finally, it results in less ball possession for us and our defence comes under more pressure.

The Premier League is very interesting, at least as long as we continue fighting to win it. But without new experienced players, real stars, it will be difficult to achieve success.

Ideally we need three or four such experienced players and then among our youths there should be guys who are not only good at playing football but have real character.

Apparently, The Sun got these from an interview of Arshavin with Russian TV. Two things are conspicuous by their absence. One is the date of the original interview and the other is the actual question that put to our sharp shooting Russian.

I cannot believe Arshavin would have said these words in the last few days. He speaks his mind and I love him for that but he’s smart enough to know the impact his words can have. Of course, the mention of Ramsey means it has to be after the Stoke game. That is the reason I feel the original question is very important. The hack might have asked him about the long term and not about this season in particular. That would explain and to an extent justify these words. I think we all, including Le Boss, agree that we will need more players in the summer. Perhaps even established and experienced ones.

Just goes to show once you eliminate the context it’s too easy to create a controversy. Is this another vile attempt by the media to create further pressure on the ‘foreign’ team challenging for a title they never thought possible? Well, if the Shawcrosses and Atkinsons of this world couldn’t do it, I doubt if the hacks at Sun can break the spirit of this side.

I am still of the the opinion as well, new stars welcome. Unfortunately we’re known as a kiddie team these days.

  2. george says:

yes .but if Carlsberg did kiddie teams …….

  3. Aussie Jack says:

No one can deny that having a Messi or a Villa in their side would not give most teams a real boost but, like all great players, they need to be part of an efficent machine. They can only play at their own level surrounded by their own kind.Put either in a Blue Square league team and they would be useless.
So, it comes back to building a star team not a team of stars. Arsenal are doing just fine.

  4. messi says:

agree hundred % with jack although we could do with another CB and still bring in chamakh probs

It was so annoying listening to Guillem Balague on Football focus the other day like always that bastard was going on about how Cesc would love to leave on a high at the end of the season and if I ever meet that numskull I’m going to let him know what I feel about him
by the way the tribunal that settled Cesc’s alleged poaching did give barca a fair settlement amount also the first option on the player if ever he was up for sale which literally means that if a sum of maybe 40mill was to come in from inter then barca would get a option of matching the sum and getting the permission to talk to him so if fab doesn’t want to go to barca only then would any other team be able to snap him up.

  6. critic says:

    what new players???only 1 central defender that’s it…how many do u guys want??do u want two arsenal?

  7. Ibrahim says:

It is not very clever to sell fabrigas even for 70 million. The player did not even reach his top level yet. Wenger mostly sell the players only when they pass their top form. Fabrigas is more than an arsenal player, he is the heart of a very dynamic engine called sexy Arsenal. Can you imagine Barca selling chavi and iniesta for every prise? Is there any barca engine without them? He is also a nice guy and becoming a vey decent captain. Im sure Arsene will do eveything to keep him.

  8. Austino says:

Hahahahahahaha!!! I so much like this(Arsenal)blog. Why? cos anytime i feel like laughing my head off,i come here.Kiddies club.Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

    • realgunner says:

thats because there is nothing interesting on your blog!!!!! Arsenal fans NEVER go on other team’s blogs cause there is NOTHING to see there. thats why u get worried and so concerned even when we play,……[by the way, we dont bother when ur team, whatever it is, is playing]. go back to your boring blog!!

  9. terry says:

fuck the media arsenal will not sell cesc infact we will buy new players probably chamak for free or remy and a defender wether gallas leaves or no personally would love a def mid (melo , flamini or veloso)

  10. emmannuel says:

I actually doubt the untimely comments of arsharvin. Fab is to arsenal what messi is to arsenal. other players too did creditably in his absence, albeit only to impress and on a different unarsenal style. even if fab is gonna leave arsenal, not to inter of all. Those news holds no water at all. They are calculated distractions which the boys know how to handle. I know Wenger will sign in June at least two to add to Maroun Chamakh.maybe Harzad as am also reading. Defender is a priority as i can see.

  11. I’m unsure of the legality. I know players can’t talk without permission from the clubs but maybe the agent can? If that is the case that’s a significant loop holo as, of course, the agent will pass that information on to the player.

I can’t see Fabregas leaving, and definitely not for anyone other than Barcelona. One issue, of course, would still be whether he could guarantee a place when competing against Xavi and Iniesta who, as well as being excellent players, know each others games so well.

Best of luck to Arsenal, a team who are managing to compete at the highest level without the luxury budgets of other bug clubs.

    • desigunner says:

Yeah that loop hole would defeat the purpose completely. Even I think Fabregas will leave only for Barcelona but I don’t want to second guess his wishes.

  12. realgunner says:

Even if Cesc did leave, one thing is for sure. Cesc has not made Arsenal what it is. Its actually Arsenal which has made Cesc what he now is. My point here is that Arsenal as a club has the capacity to bring in / on new players. remember, when T-Henry left everyone wrote us off.everyone said they will be religated.even after useless players like Ade & Kolo left, everyone again said the same things.people dont learn. The truth is, Arsenal is a great club with or without Cesc.True he is a good player but always remember that Players & Managers exist BECAUSE there is a CLUB,..not the other way round. Arsenal has been there for more than 100years.but has Cesc been there for 100years? [for example, did Chelsea die as a club after Mourinho left? has AC Millan died after Anchelotti left? has Arsenal died after Henry, Pires, Edu (if u know him),Reyes, Lehman,Seaman, Gilberto, Hleb, Wright, Adebayor, Lauren, Ashly [a.k.a cashly] cole, flamini etc etc etc left???????] somebody answer me

  13. If Cesc leaves, Arsenal will be fine. They have more than enough money to replace him, and players that have done well in his absence this season.

He will, of course, be difficult to replace and for Arsenal to continue to push for honours, the challenge that faces Wenger is to buy a replacement or for one of the many potentially excellent players in the Arsenal midfield to step up and fill the void. The one who looks most likely at present is Aaron Ramsey, although only time will tell how his injury effects him.

  14. realgunner says:

I’d say Samir Nasri will be a more suited replacement. he is quite technical. and whats more, he is able to take on opponents and has great speed.rarely loses the ball

  15. Hong_gunner says:

Cesc leaving now is not possible. Not till Wenger is incharge, atleast. Why would Cesc himself or anybody for that matter thing of Cesc’s next destination, with 7 games to go and Cesc leading the team so close to the finishing line. I guess now is the final burst of speed and determination, whoever gets it, takes the league. I think so. Those little extra determination to get the 50/50 balls will give that extra edge, and ofcourse once the opponents play break, we’ve got the craft upfront to break defences, which are all very do-able defences to deal with. But yes, its all easy said than done. Determination, ability, spirit, even luck. Evrythng counts. I think we can win it this year. There’s a sense in the air everytime the ball is kicked-off by the gunners after the Ramsey banner thing done by the Red members.
And to the other thing, if Cesc does leave, which wont be before the next few years, its hard to say now. And wenger will probably too wait till Ramsey is back. Whats r the odds on Cesc scoring?

    • desigunner says:

You’re right, I think the conspiracy theories have some merit. These stories are leaked with the intention of destabilizing the club and little else.

Would love to see Cesc score at the Camp Nou and celebrate in his usual style

  16. realgunner says:

you see guys, the truth is that when wenger wants to sign or release a player, its rarely in the media. people will usually get to know of it when its almost closed. i agree with what you are saying that these stories could be coming from “evil” sources. remember people like Ferguson (sir) has openely said the threat is more from Arsenal than Chelsea? that said, anybody can go to lenghths to cause disturbilzation in the camp! already wenger defended the so-called Arshavin interview by saying “its from a long time ago”. but then somebody wanted to make it seem its from yesterday! geeeeezzzzzzz. dont tell me people are that scared of the Gunners!!!

  18. Yusuf hamza says:

Even if cesc, arshavin, clichy and vermealen will nothing can course any problem in arsenal 4example look u at 4rom 2006 to rightnow how many players that leave but it is still the GUNNER’s
